Lying to the east of Exeter beyond Whimple lie green fields upon which a gigantic construction project is altering the landscape.
This is “Cranbrook”.
As I visited the Cranbrook site last Sunday and its visitor centres I was overwhelmed by the sheer size and ambition of this project – to build a new town between Honiton and Exeter which will incorporate almost 3,000 new homes and community facilities.
Those of us living in East Devon are only slowly getting to grips with the likely influence that Cranbrook will have upon population, infrastructure and public services.
Whatever the environmental issues, the hope is that new local employment opportunities will arise through a new Industrial Estate called “Sky Park” creating 6,500 jobs plus a nearby Science Park with the potential to create a further 3,000 more jobs.
Transport infrastructure enhancements will be necessary and these will include a brand new railway station, a new access road and improvements to the M5, junction 29.
The properties in Cranbrook will enjoy a new combined heat and power district heating scheme to supply local homes and businesses with heat and hot water. Eventually the energy will be powered by a renewal biomass fuel unit which will save the environment an estimated 17,000 tonnes of co2 per year.
Properties will enjoy easy access to super fast browsing of the internet through fibre optic cables. Primary and Secondary Schools will be built together with a Doctors Surgery, a Library and a Country Park.
The project looks very exciting and many of our clients will be interested but they should, of course, take all factors into consideration including the length of time the town will need to get going.
We hope to provide special packages for clients purchasing properties in Cranbrook and should you require any further information at this early stage please do not hesitate to contact Mark Ollier at firstname.lastname@example.org.
